I know it sounds like a daft question, but what exactly is Street photography? Surprisingly enough, some who are new to the genre think it is just about taking pictures of people who are doing nothing more than populating their viewfinders by walking towards or away from their cameras. Street photography is more than that! It's about life and the human condition. It's often about capturing the absurdity of life; those private moments where people step outside of their normally safe and sensible little boxes. For the photographer it's all about observation and being ready to record the action when it happens.
It's not necessary for Street photography to actually be done on the Street. You can find prime examples of this genre almost anywhere: inside a public building, on the street, at a fairground. In fact any location where there is a tendency for people to step outside of conventional behaviour. Alfred Einstein once said: “If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.” I think that applies as much to Street Photography as it does most things in life.
