If ever there was a great leveler in the gender equality debate, perhaps photography would have to stand out as the greatest leveler of them all. Women Photographers from the remarkable Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879) to the beautiful and brilliant Rena Effendi, have been influential in setting the bar extremely high for the rest of us who wish to follow in their footsteps. Anyone who shows an interest will be excited by, and influenced by, some of the most outstanding work in their particular fields of photography. There are many female photographers that we can learn our craft from, and the most recently discovered work of Vivian Maier is no exception. Photographers like Dorothea Lang, Greta Stern, and Fay Godwin, who happened to be the photographer who influenced me more than any other when I first started taking pictures, Gisele Fraund, Ilse Bing, Diane Arbus, Eve Arnold; the list goes on almost endlessly. Just take the time to look at some of the amazing work from these photographers and you will be blessed and inspired. Here are a few links to be getting on with. There are plenty more that can easily be researched via Google if you take the time to do so. So please take the opportunity!
